Guest Speaker - Kate’s Bio

Kate was raised in the Verde Valley of Northern Arizona on goat milk and goat milking. She fell in love with the goats, and next came chickens, turkeys & geese, then honey bees, soap-making, composting, weaving, and prickly pear harvesting. After leading a permaculture inspired childhood, Kate received her BA in Environmental Studies from Whitman College. After graduation, Kate returned home to Arizona where she worked in solar energy advocacy and reconnected with the desert community she loves.

As VPA’ s Volunteer Manager for the last 2 years, Kate most enjoys meeting folks from all walks of life who are committed to urban solutions for sustainability in this unique desert environment – whether they are newcomers to the idea of permaculture or experienced practitioners – we all have something to learn from each other.
