Prickly Pear Fruit Harvest Event!

The fruits of the prickly pear cactus, also known as "tunas", are an extremely useful and abundant food source here in the desert. They boast high levels of vitamin C, antioxidants, fiber, calcium, and magnesium and can be used in everything from syrup and pies to margaritas and wine.

Join VPA to learn how to harvest prickly pear tunas and take many, many home for your own experiments! This is an onsite talk and demonstration on private land. As this is hosted at a private residence, you will receive the address in an email once you are registered.

What to wear: A shade hat, closed-toed shoes, clothes that aren't so loose-hanging that they'll snag on thorns as you're harvesting

What to bring: Lots of water, a pair of kitchen tongs, and a bucket to hold and transport the fruits of your labor. Favorite recipes, if you have them, and a smile!

Saturday, August 29th
7:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Suggested $5 donation upon arrival to support VPA's Community Events.

We look forward to seeing you there!
